The Weight of Rain
The Seasons Within: A Journey to Stillness - Chapter 11
(Theme: Emotional Release & Allowing Yourself to Feel)
Leila sat on the porch, watching the storm roll in.
The sky had darkened, thick clouds pressing low over the mountains. A hush settled over the forest, a silence that always came just before the rain.
She pulled the blanket tighter around her shoulders, feeling the shift in the air.
A deep inhale.
A slow exhale.
She had always loved the rain, but today, something about it felt different. Heavier. As if the sky was carrying something unspoken—something waiting to be released.
She understood that feeling all too well.
The First Drops
The first raindrops landed softly, dotting the wooden porch, sliding down the windowpanes.
Then more.
A slow rhythm, a quiet beginning.
Leila closed her eyes, listening to the sound. The gentle patter, the way it filled the silence without breaking it.
Tears welled unexpectedly.
Not from sadness.
Not from anything she could name.
Just a weight she hadn’t realized she was still carrying.
She let the tears fall.
Just like the rain.
No resistance. No shame. Just release.
The Cleansing Storm
The rain grew heavier, the soft drizzle turning into a steady downpour. The roof drummed with it, the wind whispering through the trees.
She stepped out from the safety of the porch, letting the rain soak into her sweater, her hair, her skin.
It was cold. Sharp. Alive.
And for the first time in weeks, so was she.
She tilted her face toward the sky, arms hanging loose at her sides.
Letting go.
Letting it all be washed away.
The self-doubt.
The guilt.
The expectations she had placed on herself for too long.
It was all just water now.
Just a storm passing through.
A New Kind of Stillness
When the rain slowed, Leila walked back inside, peeling off her damp sweater, wrapping herself in warmth.
The cabin smelled of cedar and rain-soaked air.
She poured a cup of tea and sat by the fire, listening to the last drops tap against the window.
Everything felt cleaner. Lighter.
She had been afraid to let herself feel everything.
But maybe that was part of healing.
Not just sitting in stillness, but allowing herself to move through the storm.
And trusting that, on the other side, the sky would be clear again.
Mindfulness Practice: Sitting with the Rain
Tonight, take a moment to listen—to the world, to yourself.
- Find a quiet space and close your eyes.
- If possible, sit near an open window or go outside. Listen to the natural sounds around you.
- Imagine the rain washing over you, even if it’s not there. Let it carry away whatever you no longer need.
- Allow yourself to feel, without judgment. Sadness, relief, gratitude—whatever rises, let it be.
- Take a deep breath. Let it all settle.
Emotions, like storms, are not meant to be held forever.
They come. They pass. They leave the world fresh again.
Leila watched the last of the rain disappear into the earth.
Tomorrow, the forest would be greener.
And so would she.
