The Forest´s Teachings
The Seasons Within: A Journey to Stillness - Chapter 10
(Theme: Trusting the Natural Flow of Life & Embracing Change)
Leila walked deeper into the forest than she ever had before.
The trees stood tall around her, their bare branches stretching toward the sky, waiting for spring. The ground was damp beneath her boots, the last patches of snow shrinking into the earth.
Something about the woods had always comforted her—the steady presence of things that grew without rushing, without questioning their place.
Trees didn’t force themselves to bloom in winter.
They trusted the seasons to guide them.
She exhaled, her breath curling into the cool morning air.
Maybe she needed to do the same.
Lessons from the Trees
She ran her fingers along the rough bark of an old oak, tracing the deep lines that told a story far older than her own.
How long had this tree stood here? How many storms had it weathered?
And yet, it remained—rooted, strong, unshaken by the passing of time.
She pressed her palm against it, as if trying to absorb its wisdom.
"Not everything is meant to be controlled."
It was a thought, a whisper, a realization.
She had spent so much of her life trying to force things to happen—chasing deadlines, shaping outcomes, fearing change.
But here, in the forest, everything simply was.
And it was enough.
The River’s Message
Further ahead, she found a stream cutting through the trees, its surface rippling as it moved over rocks and fallen branches.
She knelt beside it, watching how effortlessly the water flowed.
It didn’t resist the obstacles in its path.
It moved around them, over them, through them.
It adapted.
She dipped her fingers into the icy water, letting it slip through her hands.
"What if I stop resisting? What if I trust where life is leading me?"
She didn’t have all the answers.
But maybe she didn’t need to.
Maybe it was okay to flow.
A Promise to Herself
Back at the cabin, she opened her journal and wrote:
"I will stop forcing things to happen before their time.
I will trust that change comes when I am ready for it.
I will move like the river—steady, fluid, open to the journey ahead."
She closed the journal and looked out the window, where the forest stretched beyond the cabin.
The trees weren’t afraid of what came next.
Neither was the river.
And maybe, just maybe, she didn’t have to be either.
Mindfulness Practice: Flowing with Change
Tonight, take a moment to reflect on where you are resisting change in your life.
- Sit quietly and focus on your breath.
- Ask yourself: What am I trying to control right now?
- Imagine yourself as a river—fluid, adaptable, moving with ease.
- Let go of the need for certainty. Trust that things are unfolding as they should.
You don’t have to force your path.
You only have to walk it.
Leila stepped onto the porch, breathing in the fresh, cool air.
Somewhere in the distance, the stream continued its journey.
And so would she.
