Footprints in the Snow

The Seasons Within: A Journey to Stillness - Chapter 7

(Theme: Self-Trust & Recognizing Inner Guidance)

Leila stood at the cabin’s doorway, wrapped in a thick wool coat, staring out at the endless white.

The snow had stopped falling overnight, leaving a landscape untouched by footprints. Everything looked pristine, still. But something about the emptiness made her uneasy.

She had spent so much time looking inward, unraveling thoughts, listening to the silence. But now, standing at the threshold of the cabin, she felt a question forming inside her.

What comes next?

She wasn’t sure.

And that uncertainty felt heavier than she expected.

The First Step

She took a deep breath and stepped into the snow.

The crunch beneath her boots was sharp, breaking the silence, marking the land with her presence.

She hesitated and glanced back. A single set of footprints trailed behind her, the first marks on a blank canvas.

A realization stirred within her.

She had been waiting—waiting for signs, for clarity, for something to tell her where to go.

But maybe clarity wasn’t something that arrived fully formed.

Maybe it was something created, one step at a time.

Following Her Own Path

She kept walking, allowing herself to move without a destination, without a plan.

As she walked, she became aware of the rhythm of her breath, the way it matched her steps.

Inhale. Step.

Exhale. Step.

There was something steadying about it—this simple act of moving forward.

A thought surfaced, quiet but firm:

"You are always your own guide."

How many times had she doubted herself? How often had she looked outside for answers, for permission to move?

She had always assumed wisdom was something she had to find, something distant and elusive.

But maybe it had been inside her all along, waiting for her to listen.

A Moment of Trust

She paused in a clearing where the trees opened up, revealing the sky.

The air was crisp, the kind of cold that wakes you up completely. She inhaled deeply, feeling it fill her lungs, and let the breath go slowly.

For the first time, she didn’t feel lost.

She wasn’t afraid of the blank space ahead of her.

Because she knew—wherever she went, whatever came next—she would find her way.

She always had.

Mindfulness Practice: Trusting Your Inner Compass

Tonight, take a moment to connect with the wisdom inside you.

  • Find a quiet space. Close your eyes.
  • Take a deep breath and let yourself settle into stillness.
  • Ask yourself: What is something I already know deep down?
  • Let the answer come naturally, without forcing it. It may be a feeling, a word, an image.
  • Trust that your intuition speaks softly but truthfully.

The answers are not always loud.

But they are always there.

Waiting for you to listen.

Leila turned back toward the cabin, following her own footprints home.

The path was hers alone.

And for the first time, she trusted herself to walk it.
